This book on how Sharia hijacked Islam deserves critical attention from progressive, reform-minded Muslims. The book is the culmination of in-depth research on how Sharia Law, as applied to Muslims in Muslim-majority as well as in some non-Muslim countries, has seriously distorted the clear message given in the Quran. In the process, the applied Sharia Law has done enormous harm to Muslims, especially Muslim women. A typical example is the current Sharia divorce law that causes Muslim women immense, inhuman suffering. The book lays bare not only the contradictions of the applied Sharia with the Quran and modern ethical values, but also traces how such distortions were created by Muslim theologians. It should be a useful reference book for progressive Muslim researchers.

Absolutely incredible book. I’m not Muslim, but I work in the Middle East and this book helps me understand and interpret so many cultural issues in that area of the world. Well written and excellent research involved. Highly recommend!

This is perhaps a well-intentioned book but I think it is fundamentally flawed. It projects a benign image of Mohammed and the Koran, which is completely against reality, as an objective study of Mohammed's life and the Koran will easily make clear.

Instead of seeking to reform Islam or understandings of Islam, how much more useful it would have been to encourage people to drop Islam or transcend Islam, indeed transcend religion as such. Once one realizes that all religions are human constructs and recognizes that all men who claim to be prophets are frauds, one realizes that the way out us nit not reforming religion but abandoning it and being liberated from ut
